Sampoerna to Vaccinate Thousands of Employees to Support Recovery from COVID-19

Sampoerna becomes one of the first industry players to receive independent vaccination from the Gotong Royong program, reaffirming commitment to prioritize the health and safety of employees as a labor-intensive industry

Karawang, 18 May 2021 – PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna) participates in the launch of the Gotong Royong vaccination program. Gotong Royong is a vaccination program by the Government of Indonesia with the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). Indonesia President Joko Widodo, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, and Chairman of KADIN Indonesia Rosan Roeslani inaugurates the program at Cikarang and Karawang Industrial Estates, with 18 manufacturers in attendance and vaccinating 40,000 people.

We hope vaccination will help recover our economy. As we know, in the first quarter of 2021 our economic growth was at -0.74 percent. In the second quarter of 2021, we hope to achieve our target of approximately 7 percent as productions on all lines can once again resume normally,” said Jokowi in his remarks.

The government and KADIN selected the industrial estates as the first area for the Gotong Royong roll-out, driven by COVID-19 red zones and priority for industrial locations. At the launch, Sampoerna receives vaccine allocation for 1,000 employees at its production facility in Karawang, West Java. Working with Bio Farma as the vaccine provider and Kimia Farma as the healthcare personnel provider, Sampoerna administers the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine for 500 employees on 18 May. The remaining 500 to be administered in phases on 23 and 24 May 2021.

Sampoerna President Director Mindaugas Trumpaitis appreciates the Government and KADIN’s effort to provide independent vaccine allocation for industries. “Sampoerna’s participation in the Gotong Royong independent vaccination program is proof of our commitment to place the health and safety of our employees as our top priority,” said Mindaugas.

According to Mindaugas, Sampoerna had consistently made an effort to secure the vaccine allocation since the government and KADIN first announced the program. Mindaugas stated that as one of the labor-intensive industries, the independent vaccination program is vital to protect the employees and support the government in reaching herd immunity.

Through KADIN, Sampoerna had registered for independent vaccination about 65,000 people, including Sampoerna’s employees and employees of the third-party manufacturers throughout regencies and cities in Java, with the company bearing the entire vaccination cost.

Aside from vaccination, Sampoerna proactively and continuously adopts strategic steps for the health and safety of employees. Sampoerna also consistently maintains product quality and brand integrity by implementing strict health and hygiene protocols at all operational areas and production facilities, according to the COVID-19 Health Protocols for businesses issued by the Government and the COVID-19 National Task Force.

All of this is part of a concerted effort to play our part in supporting the government in preventing and mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia and in facilitating national economic recovery,” close Mindaugas.
