PT HM Sampoerna Tbk (Sampoerna) puts employees safety and health as our primary concern. Based on the prevailing regulations (East Java Gubernatorial Regulation No. 18/2020 and Mayor Regulation No 16/2020 on PSBB), we decided to pause operations at the Rungkut 2 factory since 27 April 2020 until further notice for deep cleaning and sanitization. We believe this is an appropriate step to take considering some of our employees have been infected with COVID-19.
We have also submitted data and information on this to the COVID-19 Handling Acceleration Task Force in Surabaya and East Java. By adhering to the principle of personal data protection for our employees who are affected, we do not provide data and information to parties other than the authorities.
Furthermore, according to the direction and coordination with the Surabaya City Government, we have also implemented recommended protocols such as conducting contact tracing, requesting employees for self-quarantine, conducting COVID-19 tests, and collaborating with local hospitals.
Our priority now is to ensure the safety and health of our employees by implementing health protocols such as government recommendations, and continuing to coordinate with the Government and Task Force at City and Provincial level to prevent dissemination.
We take these steps by continuing to ensure supports to employees and carry out social responsibility to the community, including by enabling paid time-off for:
• Affected employees;
• Employees who need to undertake self-quarantine; and
• Employees who need to care for members of their household who have contracted the virus.
In addition to complying with all applicable regulations, ensuring product quality is also our priority, therefore we maintain at least five days from manufacture until the product reaches the consumer - two days more than the upper end of the range of the environmental stability of COVID-19, as advised by the European CDC and the World Health Organization which says COVID can “survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard.”
Since the Government of Indonesia declared the Covid-19 pandemic emergency response in mid March 2020, Sampoerna has also taken a series of safety first measures at all our office and production facilities to protect our employees, including:
• Restricting access to production facilities to essential workers;
• Implementing temperature screening when entering the office/production area;
• Enhancing hygiene and sanitation protocols;
• Compartmentalizing activities (i.e. separation of working groups, staggered break/mealtimes and shift changes, etc.);
• Providing and ensuring the use of personal protective equipment such as masks and hand sanitizers;
• Implement physical-distancing in all areas and production facilities such as canteens, places of worship, and other gathering areas. This also applies to employee transportation provided by the company.
Sampoerna's commitment and efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in all office areas and production facilities.
Since the Government of Indonesia declared the Covid-19 pandemic emergency response, Sampoerna has made various efforts in accordance with the recommendations of the Government of Indonesia and the World Health Organization (WHO). Some steps taken and implemented are as follows:
For production employees:
• Limit access to production facilities;
• Check body temperature when employees entering the office/production area;
• Improve hygiene and sanitation action protocols;
• Provides masks and hand sanitizers;
• Provide information that emphasizes the importance of maintaining personal hygiene;
• Implement physical-distancing in all areas and production facilities such as canteens, places of worship, and other gathering areas. This also applies to employee transportation mode provided by the company.
For non-production employees:
• Implement a work from home policy from March 16, 2020;
• Reduce business travel;
• Cancel physical meetings/interactions and conduct online discussions instead;
• Remind to always maintain personal hygiene and maintain social/physical distance.
Whereas for some non-production employees who are responsible for critical business functions and still have to work, Sampoerna has also implemented various prevention measures, including:
• Ensure hygiene and sanitation action protocols such as providing self-protection equipment including masks and hand sanitizers;
• Adjusting business operations by minimizing site visits and only focusing on in call missions. Other requests are made online;
• Routinely spray disinfectants in offices and other related production facilities and operational vehicles.
Furthermore, as a preventative measure for employees who might be vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19, Sampoerna also requires those who are pregnant or over the age of 50 to work from home.
