Philip Morris Incorporated first entered the Indonesian market in 1984, through a license agreement with a local company to manufacture PMI's brands. PT Philip Morris Indonesia, an affiliate of Philip Morris International (PMI), was then established in 1998. In 2005, PMI became the majority shareholder (98%) of PT HM Sampoerna Tbk., Indonesia's third largest tobacco company, according to 2004 market share results. |
